First Four Turns

Slow the opening turns down so beginners can draw, scan, discard, pause for calls, and update their rack direction calmly.

The first turns are a pacing lesson: beginners learn what to notice before trying to optimize every discard.

Practice Ideas

  • Play four slow turns and require each player to name one rack clue before discarding.
  • Pause after every discard long enough for legal calls to be considered.
  • After four turns, say whether the rack direction feels stronger, weaker, or still open.
